Story of Lawson's family history which starts with the founding of America through the US Civil War. Told in simple prose but with vivid full page drawings which depict the author's pride in his origin, and reverence for this country. This is an ex-lib copy with various stamps on fep, title page. However, interior pages have no other stray writing, tears or folds and binding is firm. Some light soiling where pages were turned. Every page has a full page illustration on its opposite side. Very creative, realistic black & white illustrations. Library binding with red cloth and illustration imprinted on front board which is clean and unmarred. Lightly bumped corners & rubbing.This book is in excellent condition for a 65+year old book.

The endpapers have an illustration in yellow. Six chapters. The right hand pages have b/w, full page illustrations. The front board's top and bottom ends and front margin have foxing. Nearly half of the back board has foxing. The binder's glue has darkened part of each paste downs. The bottom margins of six pages each have a 1/8 in. stain. DJ: The front flap has the publisher's $1.50. There is no mention of the Caldecott medal. The top and bottom edges have six chips, 1/4 in. to 7/8 in., and nine closed tears, 1/4 in. to 3/4 in. A bottom corner of the front panel has a large T-shaped scrape. The folds and small, other places have color loss from shelf wear rubbing. The spine panel has darkened. The front panel has stains, mostly on the left margin. The back panel has stains, mostly in two areas. The reverse side is darkly tanned. Scans e-mailed upon request.
