Item Description: Harper & Brothers, New York, 1900. Hardcover. Book Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Harper & Brothers, New York. 1900. 398 pages. 1st edition, 1st printing. 1st state with the "[Page 2" typo above the quote below the illustration that is opposite page 2. Basically, there is a random typo just below the illustration that was corrected in second and later printings. This typo is unique to the 1st printing. Book is tight. Previous owner's name neatly written on FFEP. Front pastedown has an old erased bookseller's code and price. The binding and hinges are both strong and sound. Light soiling to red cloth exterior. Corners show light wear. Crown of backstrip shows a minuscule fuzz at edge. Gilt titles on backstrip are fresh and bright. Upper page edges show most minor soiling. There is a small amount of excess paper in the gutter and as a result it appears as if the FFEP has been excised as the 1st page is the flyleaf. Light foxing to tissue-guard on frontispiece. Item Description: Oxford University Press, New York, 1996. hardcover. Book Condition: Fine in a Fine dustwrapper. First Edition. Facsimile of the Original American Edition, Complete with Reproductions of the Original Illustrations. Edited by Shelley Fisher Fishkin, this is copy #28 of only 240 for sale (of 300) and is SIGNED by the author of the introduction, Cynthia Ozick, as well as the author of the afterword, Jeffrey Rubin-Dorsky, who places the work in the context of Twain's career and the literary and social climate of the time. In our experience very few of these sets were broken up, so encountering individual volumes, especially those signed by better-known writers such as Ozick, are uncommon.
