Bound in dark green half leather, which has badly scuffed covers/Volume 1 is a little water stained. There is no date of publication, but possibly 1890 to 1920? (3271 pages in total). The volumes contain : Shakespeare's History plays. -Volume One contains King John, King Richard II, King Henry IV Part I, King Henry IV Part II and King Henry V - contains 390 pages Volume Two contain The First Part of Henry VI,The Second Part of Henry VI, The Third Part of Henry VI and King Richard III and King Henry VIII - contains 398 pages. Two Volumes. Light brown leather binding, attractive gilt-decorated spine, pale end-papers, blue/pink marbling to page-edges. Volume I - rear hinge cracked. Some wear to corners through to card at boards' tips, light surface marks to boards, some wear with rubbing to edges. Top spine-end chipped 1-1.5cm, rubs to bottom spine-end , black title-plates have fallen off spine, moderate rubbing to raised cross-banded areas. Volume Two - front spine hinge cracked and spine covering has tear near bottom. Light/some wear to boards' corners. Light rubs to edges of boards, light surface marks. Both volumes have a light wave to pages. Attractive B&W illustrations, binding of text block is very sound in both cases, text of both is also very clean and in nice condition. Comedies Volume 1 & 2, Tragedies 1 & 2 including Poems, Histories 1 & 2, Doubtful Plans - supplemental volume, A Biography by Charles Knight (1842) Hardcovers with leather spines and corners, and green cloth boards, cover wear is confined to the spines which are worn at the ends and some have been repaired. Tragedies 2 has loose spine hinge, marbled paper lining inside covers and marbled page edges, dulled gilt decorations on spine. Gilt titles within black labels on spines, but only 7 of 16 labels are present. Interiors are attractively illustrated, clean and some volumes appear unread. Published between 1839 and 1842, and despite the described cover wear the 8 volumes set is attractive and in good to very good condition. Seller Inventory # 000272

Beautiful original matching publishers bindings - reddish brown cloth blindstamped and stamped in gilt and black with pictorial on spines. 4to 9 7/8" tall x 6 3/4". Speckled page edges. Numerous text figure engravings as well as 4 or more beautiful full page plate engravings per volume printed on thick paper. Number of pages per volume: 456pp; 446pp; 390pp; 485pp; 553pp and 507pp. A partial set missing the Tragedies in 2 volumes - Volume 1 and 2 of the set. Pages lightly toned. Beautiful bright and clean bindings - cloth shows no real signs of wear. Tightly bound. A few scattered fox spots - very little - otherwise clean unmarked texts. near Fine condition. A fair amount of external wear with rubbing to the corners, surfaces and edges of the boards and spines. Bindings are all tight, and generally interiors are clean, with light age toning.
