About this Item: London: Ward, Lock, 1891, 1891. First English Edition; deluxe, large-paper issue; one of 250 numbered copies, signed by Wilde. Recased with the original spine laid down (including the gilt lettering with the author and title), utilizing matching material at the top and bottom of the spine and along the joints; back cover spotted; with the appropriate Beardsley bookplate of Herbert Pollitt; very good in a custom clamshell box. The published novel was revised and expanded from its 1890 appearance in Lippincott's. While its publication was met with poor reviews, time has treated Wilde far better than his contemporaries ever did. All books described as first editions are first printings unless otherwise noted.
