Presented here is the August 1916 printing of "The Poems of Henry Van Dyke, published by Charles Scribner's Sons. It is a very nice copy, clean and attractive. Henry van Dyke (1852 - 1933) was one of the most esteemed and beloved public figures in his day. He was author, poet, clergyman, educator and statesman. He is most famously remembered these days for his stories, "The Other Wise Man", and "The First Christmas Tree", as well as such books as "The Blue Flower", "Days Off", "Fisherman's Luck", "Out of Doors in the Holy Land" - and many more. Van Dyke was the American Ambassador to the Netherlands and Luxembourg , and was in Europe when World War I erupted. He carried himself with great diplomatic integrity. ************************ Van Dyke was friends with a goodly number of well-known people, among those who were close to him was Helen Keller.
