About this Item: Leavitt & Allen, New York. Condition: Good. [nd], ca 1860. Contemporary owner's name inked to fly leaf, dated 1863. 935 pages. Brown leather with gilt spine titles, floral gilt tooling to the edges of the boards. Boards edgeworn, particularly with rubbing to bottom edges that obscure the gilt tooling at bottom, boards also scuffed and rubbed, with dark staining to top of rear cover, and to front cover in a large "L" shape. Bottom two inches of front hinge split; binding cracked following the title page. Binding otherwise intact. Marbled page edges. Marble paper endsheets. Prior owner's name at flyleaf, and age-toning and heavy foxing to pages throughout. Text otherwise clean and unmarked. This item is oversized, and may require additional postage to ship. [3], 6-829 pp. Full brown leather with gilt decorations and lettering on the boards and spine, all edges gilt. Gilt portrait of Byron embossed on the front board, three of the Muses embossed in gilt on the rear board. Illustrated with a frontispiece engraving, a vignette engraved title page, and numerous steel-engraved plates. Collected and arranged, with illustrative notes by Thomas Moore, Lord Jeffrey, Sir Walter Scott, Bishop Heber, Samuel Rogers, Rev. H.H. Milman, etc. A nice compendium of Byron's poetry. Includes a hand-written poem by a contemporary owner and a photograph from the middle part of the nineteenth century, taken in Milwaukee by Hugo Broich. A Near Very Good book with foxing and toning to the leaves, a few former owner's markings (including a gilt stamp on the front board that has been mostly rubbed away), and the last page of the index showing loss, the top edge of it torn away.
