Item Description: New York: Ace Books G Series 1st Editions and Later Printings 1967 & 1968, 1968. Mass Market Paperback. Book Condition: Near Fine. Gray Morrow, Jerome Podwil, Jack Gaughan, Frank Kelly Freas, Vaughan Bode, Jeff Jones, John Schoenherr (front covers) (illustrator). Later and/or First Printings. ----------19 paperbacks, all Ace Science Fiction Doubles, also referred to as tete-beche or dos-a-dos, describing books which when flipped over reveal another cover and book. Ace issued their science fiction doubles from 1953 to 1973 (there were "doubles" beyond 1973, but they bore a single cover which listed both books). The books were issued in 5 letter-prefix series based on original cover price, and 1 numerical series. Offered here is the FIFTH and last letter-prefix series, the "H" series, consisting of 19 volumes issued from 1967 to 1968, and bearing an original cover price of $0.60. It is the COMPLETE set of Ace SF doubles H series, starting with H-20, to H-103. The H series consisted almost entirely of first editions, and several authors made important appearances here. Notable first editions are by Dean R. Koontz (Star Quest, his FIRST book), Space Chantey by R.A. Lafferty (cover by Vaughan Bode, his only Ace Double cover), The Last Castle by Jack Vance, and the first 2 entries in E.C. Tubb's Dumarest series, The Winds of Gath and Derai. Other writers made appearances, such as Kenneth Bulmer, Emil Petaja, Tom Purdom, A. Bertram Chandler, Mack Reynolds, John Rackham, Louis Trimble, Clifford Simak, and others. Condition of the books ranges from VG to unread fine, with most being at least near fine. Very attractive colourful books. Inquiries on condition or requests for cover scans of individual volumes are welcomed. Overseas shipping (anything outside of Canada and the USA) will require additional shipping charges. Item Description: Putnam, USA, 1977. Hardcover. Book Condition: As New. Dust Jacket Condition: As New. 1st Edition. If you are a discerning Koontz collector then this is the copy you are missing from your shelf. My own personal copy for many years, I am selling it because I need to trim down my collection and, as such, I am concentrating on the UK editions. Published by Putnam in 1977 this book is SIGNED AND LENGTHILY INSCRIBED BY DEAN R KOONTZ AS FOLLOWS: "TO HOWARD, THE PUBLISHER SWORE ON HIS MOTHER'S GRAVE THAT THE JACKET WOULD NOT HAVE A BAT ON IT BECAUSE THAT WOULD GIVE AWAY PART OF THE PLOT. WELL IF YOU CHECK THE JACKET, YOU'LL SEE THAT THE PUBLISHER HAD NO RESPECT WHATSOEVER FOR HIS MOTHER." The jacket is Very Fine and unclipped - it states $8.95 and has the code 7711 on the inner flat to confirm the first edition jacket. The book is Very Fine and the copyright page confirms the first printing in 1977. A truly superb example of this title; as close to 'new' as you will get. Signed by Author(s).
