Rear hinge just beginning to weaken, boards a bit soiled, faint stain to edge of a few pages, pencil name, address, and doodles on front endpapers. 1912 Hard Cover. iv, 210 pp., [10] publisher catalog. The 14th book in the classic boy's adventure series, in which Tom Swift uses a portable motion picture camera powered by battery, dynamo, or hand crank. "Tom Swift is a fictional young inventor in five different series of juvenile science fiction and adventure novels. The character was created by Edward Stratemeyer, the founder of the Stratemeyer Syndicate, a book-packaging firm, and have been written by a number of different ghostwriters over the years. The books are published under the collective pseudonym Victor Appleton (or, in one case, "Victor Appleton II"). The character first appeared in 1910 and has appeared in new titles as recently as 2007. Each of the various series focuses on Tom's inventions, a number of which pre-date actual inventions. The character has evolved over the years, but in general the books portray science and technology as wholly beneficial in its effects. The books have been translated into a number of languages and sold over 20 million copies worldwide. Tom Swift has also been the star of a board game, an activity book, and a television show, and a feature film is planned. A type of pun, the Tom Swifty, is named for the character, and a number of prominent figures, including Steve Wozniak and Isaac Asimov, have cited Tom Swift as an inspiration. Several inventions, including the taser, have been directly inspired by Tom's fictional inventions.

Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. This G+ quality likely second format book, as per Mattson & Davis, was copyrighted in 1912 and was published by Grosset & Dunlap; it is 7-5/8" tall with 210 numbered pages of text followed by 10 unnumbered pages of ads. This book is square, modestly soiled, free of edge dings with all four corners lightly bumped; the head and heel of the spine are bumped with slight color loss; the bottom edges have a heavy amount of wear but the boards are not exposed. The spine is heavily soiled and not faded; all the lettering and the oval image are intact. The front panel is also soiled but has only a modest amount of wear. The lower corner of the rear board has water damage that makes the very corner flabby--but there is no water damage to any text pages. Also, the front and rear panels have dots of color loss. The interior is free of writing, stray marks, stains of any sort and paper damage of any type. Both hinges are strong and undamaged in any fashion. The text paper is mildly toned and very flexible. The book has no remainder mark and is not a former library book. It has a frontis on coated paper. The list at the rear of the book lists to title #27 in this series.
