About this Item: London Cassell 1883, 1883. First Edition. Original publisherÕs blue gilt-stamped cloth, hinges slightly starting, some cocking, some rubbing, some slight fraying at top and bottom of spine, overall very good. With the following points: "Dead ManÕs Chest" is uncapitalized on pages 2 and 7; with "rain" for "vain" in the last line of page 40; the letter "a" is not present in 6th line of page 63; the "8" is present in the pagination on page 83; the number "7" is lacking completely from the pagination number on page 127 (it is likely that the copies with the Ò7Ó lacking completely precede those copies with the handstamped Ò7Ó); the period is lacking following "opportunity" in the 20th line of page 178; with "worse" for "worst" in the 3rd line of page 197. the 8 pages of advertisements are the October ads "dated 5R-1083". The book was published on November 14, 1883 and October ads, were likely used in the earliest binding. There are copies with July ads, which may have been used when the October ads were used up, and there are copies with December advertisements. The book was issued in six different cloth colors, for which there is no established (or even supposed) priority. The most famous pirate novel of all-time and one of the great landmarks of adventure fiction. Enclosed in a custom clamshell box. Seller Inventory # 9280J

About this Item: Benn, 1927. First edition, deluxe issue. Number 45 of only 50 copies, signed by Edmund Dulac. Publisher's creamy vellum with morocco title label. Top edge gilt. In publisher's card slipcase. A near fine copy, a little bowed with slight darkening to the spine and a trace of wear to the spine label, but the boards are uniformly clean and internally very fresh and free from foxing. The slipcase shows some wear and splitting to the edges, but is sound and has done its job in protecting the book. Overall an excellent copy of a noted rarity. Twelve colour plates and numerous black and white drawings in the text. The tiny print run makes this one of the rarest of all the illustrated gift books. The illustrations for this book mark a new departure in Dulac's work. He enters a phase of greens and blues, views the scenes from above and afar. Hughey says, "The detailing and design of the pictures present some of Dulac's most careful and superb painting." In fact, the watercolours he produced for this book were his own favourites. About this Item: Ernest Benn,, London:, 1927. Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: very good+. First Dulac edition.. 256pp, with the 12 colour plates and illustrations in the text. Contents immaculate, as new. Slight toning to endpapers. In the original fawn cloth, upper board bordered in gilt, spine with black lettering-piece. Extremely bright and fresh, corners sharp, spine ends puckered, three 2mm foxing spots to closed fore-edge of final pages. In the protected unclipped pictorial dust jacket, printed on cream coated stock: this is slightly toned and handled relative to the book, and there have been a few small internal professional tissue repairs, chiefly to the head of the spine, making good small chips and an adjacent closed tear at the heads of the joints, and another to the top edge of the plain back panel. Dulac's design to the front panel is complete and clean, the spine and back panel are slightly soiled, with light scuffing to the joints. An exceptionally fine copy, with the rare dust jacket.
