Condition: Very Good+. First Edition. First edition, first printing. Signed by Langston Hughes on the front free endpaper and inscribed, "For Mrs. Nettie Pierce - with sincere regard April 26, 1943." Bound in publisher's original patterned crepe paper over boards; blue cloth spine lettered in gilt. Very Good+ with slight lean to binding, toning to spine and light rubbing to gilt and light wear to ends. Minor soiling and toning to boards with fragile crepe paper rubbed through at edges. Lacking the scarce dust jacket but with clipping of front panel tipped-in at rear terminal blank; former owner's details at rear pastedown. The Harlem Renaissance poet's first book of jazz poetry. Signed copies of the first printing are scarce.
