About this Item: Harper & Row, Publishers, New York, 1963. Hardcover. Condition: Fair. Dust Jacket Condition: None. Sendak, Maurice (illustrator). 1st Edition. No marks (previous owner's name sticker on the inside of cover board, no other marks) from past owners, not a former library book, not a remainder or book club, not clipped, illustrated hardcover, with straight boards-no warping. The cover board corners are moderately worn at the corners and there is very slight yellowing along the top and bottom edges from age. The front hinge is broken and was properly repaired several years ago (the binding tape is very old, yellowed, and no longer holding) but is no longer holding resulting in the front end page and title page are loose half way down (bottom half of binding is intact). This copy would still be a nice addition to any collection with a little TLC on the binding as it is otherwise very clean for its age. Description: Classic American children's fiction book with full color illustrations. All books shipped within 24 hours with U.S. Postal Service Delivery Confirmation, each order is packaged in a new box with bubble wrap, and always your satisfaction is guaranteed. About this Item: Harper & Row. New York, 1963. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Poor. 1st Edition. Hardcover with DJ. Blue cloth spine, pictorial boards. White pictorial DJ faded at the edges and with a couple short closed (1" or so) tears. It has protected the book well, though; the book is clean and square. Front cover of DJ has the Caldecott sticker affixed (not printed on the DJ). Inside front DJ flap is price-clipped. Code of 40-80. 1163 present on the bottom of the flap. Title page has the LOC number. Rear DJ flap says "Winner of the 1964 Caldecott Award" at the top and "Best Illustrated Children's Book of 1963" at the bottom. This is not the entire and complete first edition (which makes no mention of the Caldecott Award), but it is a very early printing. After the book won the Caldecott, all the copies still in stores were recalled & new DJ's were printed, mentioning the award. This copy does have the skewed colors associated with the first printing -- just not the right DJ. The book is, however, in quite good condition. Please email for photos or with questions. About this Item: Harper & Row, 1963. Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. FIRST STATE of the First Edition, First Printing First Printing, First state dust jacket. All first state points present. Near fine book in a near fine dust jacket. The identifying points for the first state dust jacket include the unique content of the information found only on the First State jacket flaps (no mention of the Caldecott award, and instead includes a three paragraph blurb about Sendak on the rear flap and a three paragraph blurb about the book on the front inner flap). The first state book is equally unique in that the colors of the inks used on the end papers as well as many of the internal pages are different from the later printings. Unpaginated. Please see detailed images. The book has crisp boards in near fine condition. The corners are sharp, and the book has no edgewear. The binding is tight and square. The book is in beautiful condition for this title which if often found with scribbles, writing, ruined spines, alot of edgewear and other issues that revolve around first edition children?s books. The boards are clean with no fading, and no scribbles. The stunning end papers are in perfect condition with no inscriptions, no owner names, no bookstore stamps, and no bookplates. The internal pages are clean and crisp, still maintaining their original rigidity with no writing, no stains, no handling marks, no rips, no bent pages, and no foxing. Beautiful clean, crisp, bright copy of a children?s book in hard to find condition! The scarce original first state, first edition dust jacket has benefited from some slight restoration to the spine tips and as such shows in stunning near fine condition with the usual age toning as commonly found with this dust jacket. The price clipped dust jacket has strong vibrant colors with no edgewear, no rips, no chips, no rubbing, no stains, no fading, no scribbles and no foxing. The bottom of flap has the requisite code of 40-80, and 1163. The price is not important in the determination of the first state jacket as the first state is exclusively determined by the content of the information found on the inner front and rear flaps. A very handsome, clean near fine example of this scarce signed title presenting very well with the stunning jacket and clean interior at a great price for this title! ADDITIONAL IMAGES AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST. Please see our ABE store for other rare Children's books and original illustration artwork!. Seller Inventory # 001303

About this Item: New York: Harper & Row, 1971, 1971. No Binding. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. SENDAK (Maurice): Where The Wild Things Are. Complete Set of FOUR Fine Art Color Prints from the artist's Caldecott Medal Award Classic WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE (1963), these prints were manufactured in 1971 as part of a series of 19 images selected from eight different titles by Mr Sendak and newly re-photographed from the original artwork to create a PORTFOLIO. Each print is SIGNED IN FULL in ink by the artist at the lower right corner of the image. And whereas in the book these separate pictures are reproduced as double-page spreads divided in the middle and printed on two separate pages with a center crease, here each picture is now printed for the first time on a single sheet of paper. The actual image size of the first three prints measure 235 x 515 mm (9-1/4 x 20-3/16 inches) while the fourth print image measures 163 x 510 mm (6-7/16 x 20-1/8 inches), each with extra margins on larger paper. Minor handling creases, otherwise very good condition. Signed by Illustrator(s). Seller Inventory # ABBwtwtab

About this Item: New York: Harper & Row, 1963, 1963. Oblong quarto. Original cloth-backed pictorial paper boards. With the Sendak designed dust jacket. Occasional spotting to pages, small pencil notes to two pages, which list the names of the Wild Things, light rubbing to corners, in the dust jacket with toning to white areas, light spotting along rear panel edges, short closed tears to front edges, lower corner to front flap clipped as issued, 3.50 price still intact at upper portion. A very good copy. Illustrated by Sendak. First edition, first printing, first issue. There seem to be multiple issues of the first printing of this elusive and important book. Variations in price occur throughout the later states but have no bearing on the status of the true first issue. Primacy is established through the text of the blurb which, as in the present copy, makes no mention of the Caldecott Award bestowed upon the book on publication. The winning of such a prestigious prize compelled the publishers to recall the entire edition and change the text on the dust wrapper to include the achievement. Copies therefore with the original blurb are rare and are indubitably the earliest. Grolier Club, One Hundred Books Famous in Children's Literature, 97. Seller Inventory # 96725
