Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine (see description). Maurice Sendak (illustrator). For nearly 30 years, he has spoken to the child-mind in young and adult alike. A perennial best-seller, he is winner of both the Hans Christian Andersen Medal and the Caldecott Medal. Sendak s life and work are explored in affectionate detail in this charming, fun-filled book, containing 94 full-color illustrations and over 165 black-and-whites. Author Selma Lanes has drawn upon many conversations with him as well as three years of formal research and interviews to write this biography. Easy and intimate, it is enhanced by perceptive quotations from Sendak himself, who cooperated fully in the book s preparation. --Appropriate to Sendak s feeling that books should be playful, this book contains a full-color facsimile of the tiny mock-up that he first made for the story that would become Where the Wild Things Are. In addition, there are glimpses of the artist s private world in fantasy sketches, photographs of a group of mechanical toys he designed, and three full-color fold-outs of works from books and films as they ve never been seen. --Here is a unique world of imagination, straight from the wonderfully creative mind of Maurice Sendak"---, any image directly beside this listing is the actual book and not a generic photo ///NOT SIGNED ---GUARANTEED to be AVAILABLE///. About this Item: Harper & Row. New York, 1963. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Poor. 1st Edition. Hardcover with DJ. Blue cloth spine, pictorial boards. White pictorial DJ faded at the edges and with a couple short closed (1" or so) tears. It has protected the book well, though; the book is clean and square. Front cover of DJ has the Caldecott sticker affixed (not printed on the DJ). Inside front DJ flap is price-clipped. Code of 40-80. 1163 present on the bottom of the flap. Title page has the LOC number. Rear DJ flap says "Winner of the 1964 Caldecott Award" at the top and "Best Illustrated Children's Book of 1963" at the bottom. This is not the entire and complete first edition (which makes no mention of the Caldecott Award), but it is a very early printing. After the book won the Caldecott, all the copies still in stores were recalled & new DJ's were printed, mentioning the award. This copy does have the skewed colors associated with the first printing -- just not the right DJ. The book is, however, in quite good condition. Please email for photos or with questions. About this Item: New York City, NY: HarperCollins Publishers/McSweeneys, 2009. Hardcover. Condition: As New. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. Signed. Unpaginated. Published in 2009. Pictorial book-length account on subject. One of the best books on film adaptation and film-making ever published in our time. The First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Published in a small and limited first print run as a hardcover original only. The First Edition is now scarce. Presents Spike Jonze's "Heads On And We Shoot: The Making of 'Where The Wild Things Are' (With Complete Screenplay) ". His ground-breaking film adaptation of Maurice Sendak's beloved classic, together with the film itself on two discs. The lavishly produced book is presented in three parts, accordion-style: a) "Heads On And We Shoot", which describes the actual making of the film, with drawings, original artwork, reference materials, and photographs; b) the Screenplay by Spike Jonze and Dave Eggers, interspersed with Interviews and film stills; and c) "Post-Production", which consists of special effects, brilliantly reproduced on the page. "The film incorporates the most dynamic elements of voice performance, live-action puppetry, and computer animation into a live-action adventure story that captures the magic of the book, and takes it to a new dimension. In order to preserve the realistic nature of the film, 'The Wild Things' was not created digitally. Instead, Spike Jonze brings these characters to life in the form of physical suits built by the Jim Henson Company. These creatures, operated by a suit performer, interact with the live actor playing Max on set in front of the camera. After principal photography was finished, CGI was used to make the creatures completely life-like and convincing" (Publisher's blurb). An absolute "must-have" title for Spike Jonze, Maurice Sendak, and Dave Eggers collectors. This copy is very boldly and beautifully signed in metallic-silver pen-marker on the front free endpaper by Spike Jonze. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. It comes with a pristine copy of the double-disc DVD and Blu-ray combo set, also very prominently, neatly, and beautifully signed in matching silver pen-marker in front by Spike Jonze. This title is a film classic. As far as we know, this is the only such signed copy (with signed double-disc set) of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, pristine beauties. A rare signed set thus. Three of the most brilliant American artist/writers of our time. A fine collectible set. (SEE ALSO DAVE EGGERS' "THE WILD THINGS" TITLE IN OUR CATALOG) ISBN 0061645567. About this Item: Scholastic Book Services New York [1969], 1969. Soft cover. 1st Edition. First Edition. An extremely uncommon 27.5 inch by 40 inch poster for Where the Wild Things Are, published by Scholastic in advance of the first paperback printing of the book in 1969. Hanrahan states that the poster, which depicts Max with scepter before Wild Things, was probably sent to teachers for their participation in the "we like books" book club program. Lower margin with title of poster and copyright information. See C1c in Hanrahan. Only the third produced poster in Sendak's rather large body of poster work. The bibliographer's example cites pin holes to corners. This is fresh unused and near Mint poster. 0.0. Seller Inventory # 16882
