About this Item: Buxton Publishing Co, Chicago, 1933. Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. 1933 edition. Large quarto. 544pp. Illustrated from photographs. Red cloth boards. Two neat owner names on the front fly and a trifle worn at the extremities of the spine, else very near fine. An important and attractive volume, heavily illustrated with photographs and full-page biographies of then current baseball stars. This copy nicely Signed at their photos by 37 players represented in the book, including 14 Hall of Famers: Luke Appling, Bill Dickey, Leo Durocher, Rick Ferrell, Charlie Gehringer, Lefty Gomez, Burleigh Grimes, Billy Herman, Freddie Lindstrom, Al Lopez, Red Ruffing, Joe Sewell, Bill Terry, and Lloyd Waner. Among the other signers are Earl "Sparky" Adams, Ethan Allen, Dick Bartell (twice), Huck Betts, Ben Chapman, Eddie Cihocki, Doc Cramer, Tony Cuccinelli, Eddie Delker, Fred Frankhouse, Bill Hallahan, Ray Hayworth, Buck Jordan, Ray Pepper, Jack Russell, Joe Stripp, Tommy Thomas, Al Todd, Russ Van Atta, Monte Weaver, Eddie Wells, Bill Werber, and Spink Award-winning sportswriter Fred Lieb. One other "signature" present, that of Dusty Cooke on page 121, is rubber-stamped. As many of the signatures are written with ball-point pen, our speculation is that they were likely collected in the 1950s or 1960s at either Old-Timers' Day events or Hall of Fame induction ceremonies. Nevertheless they are mostly large, bold, and pleasing examples, in a superior example of a large book usually found well-worn. Seller Inventory # 425146
