About this Item: Macmillan Company of Canada, Toronto, 1947. Hard Cover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Poor. First Edition. This is a later printing of the first edition, with short reviews on the back flap of the dust jacket, instead of the author's biography. The interior of the book is clean and tight, with slighly darkened paper and the remains of an erased signature on the front free end paper. The red cloth covers are clean, with light edgewear at tips and corners, and heavier wear at the top and bottom of the spine. The gilt spine lettering has dulled. A nice book, but the dust jacket is in poor condition, with chips, several short repaired tears, and significant loss to the top of the spine and covers. This damage should be visible in the attached scan. The jacket is now in a protective mylar cover. Seller Inventory # 007469

About this Item: Canongate, Edinburgh, 1980. Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. First UK Edition. First impression of the first UK edition. Jacket design and illustration by James Hutcheson. ***Near fine in black cloth-covered boards with gilt titles to spine. Edges of boards slightly rubbed. No inscriptions. No inscriptions. Slight sporadic foxing to edge of text-block and prelims. Light offsetting to front and rear free endpapers and paste-downs. Interior pages clean. In a near fine colour-illustrated dustwrapper that has not been price-clipped, showing original publisher's price of 5.95. Edges of dustwrapper very rubbed. Crease to corner of front dustwrapper inner flap. No tears. Dustwrapper bright. 204mm x 130mm. **300 pages. ***'Since its publication in 1947 Who Has Seen The Wind has established itself as a Canadian classic. The book deals with the apparently unexciting subject of a boy growing up in a small town on the Saskatchewan prairie. ***As readers begin to enter the world of four-year-old Brian O'Connal, it soon becomes clear that this is no ordinary book. His family, and, as Brian advances towards maturity, his friends Fat and Art, his teacher, Miss Thomson, and the principal, Mr Digby, and all of the town's characters, even including the far-from respectable Old Ben and the domineering Mrs Abercrombie - all of them radiate life so convincingly that the book takes on a life of its own. This is no simple, forgettable novel, but the ageless story of childhood told with tenderness and humour and without sentimentality, the picture of a small town, anywhere, drawn with realism and understanding. ***For the first time Who Has Seen The Wind is not available in Great Britain. An award-winning film has been made of his book and is shortly to be released in the United Kingdom.' (Quote from inside front of dustwrapper blurb). ***First impression of the first UK edition in its original dustwrapper in very nice, collectable condition. Uncommon.***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. Seller Inventory # 3452

About this Item: Macmillan, Toronto, 1947. Hardcover. First Canadian edition. First issue binding in the first issue jacket. Octavo, red cloth. Spine has soft creases and one light soil spot; light foxing to top page edges; two small holes to front inner hinge caused by binding threads); boards just a little bit bowed, as often; light yellowing to page 1 and facing blank from original Eaton's sales slip, still laid in; else a VG+ clean, bright and unworn copy, no owner names. The dust jacket has light sunning to the red portions of the spine, with mild rubbing at bottom; nicks and minor rubbing at top; one inch closed tear to upper outer corner of front panel; very small rubbed chips to outer corners; half inch closed slit to upper inner margin of front panel; mild foxing to rear panel and both flaps; in all VG, flap price intact. For this book, the condition of the jacket is very much better than the norm. The jacket is a bit too tall for the book, so copies usually have at least nicks along the top edge, and the red portions of the spine are very fade prone. Copies in fine / fine condition are nigh impossible to find - I've seen only one in 35 years. The text of this edition was some 7000 words longer than the US edition, but it was the US text which was the basis of all subsequent editions until 1991. The US edition preceded by 10 days. A CanLit Highspot. Seller Inventory # 38488
