About this Item: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform, United States, 2014. Paperback. Condition: New. Language: English. Brand new Book. "We have received notice from a third party regarding copyright concerns over your book. Please be advised that we do not involve ourselves in third party disputes and therefore have removed the availability of the title through our systems." That's how the e-mail begins. What it means is that someone made a claim to the self-publishing website that you violated their copyright. They don't even have to prove they have a legitimate claim. They make the claim and, zip! Your book is gone! This would be fine if you were able to contact the person with the claim and resolve the differences. But when the person who makes the claim is a political enemy with a "no contact order" against you, it's impossible to work out the differences, and your book is dead. This is Bill Schmalfeldt's fifth attempt to publish this book. The first time, a right wing blogger claimed the author used ONE SENTENCE from his blog. The second time, the same right wing blogger claims he purchased the rights to an anonymous blogger's writing, and caused CreateSpace and Amazon to cease publication. The third time, another political enemy didn't like the fact that he was being written about and used a claim on a picture of his infant, originally published in an Arizona newspaper, a picture he did not take or have copyright claim to, an image which the author blurred to hide the baby's face, and demanded its removal. CreateSpace and Amazon folded faster than Superman on laundry day. The fourth time, a woman who is a fan of the right wing extremist blogger, claimed that a photo used in a newspaper story about her failed run for office in 2011 was "her property." Amazon, CreateSpace and didn't even bother to ask. They just took the book down. Something needs to change. People are gaming the system to silence writers who are trying to wake up a sleepy nation about the dangers of right wing extremism. In this book, author Bill Schmalfeldt argues for companies like Amazon and CreateSpace to require proof of a legitimate infringement claim before killing an author's hard work. About this Item: Independently Published, United States, 2019. Paperback. Condition: New. Language: English. Brand new Book. Much of what I feelRemains buriedIn the unfathomable depths of silence.Your silence and my silence are the same.My poems are wings of my silence, Which spread and expand, To embrace your silenceAnd together, They dissolve into infinity.Vanita ThakkarA Foreword by Dr. Bini B. S. .Vanita's poems are refreshingly imaginative and soothingly optimistic; her words shine with a message of hope and strength through the darkest of moods, fiercest of fears and bewildering dilemmas. The underlying optimism in these poems implies the deep spirituality of the writer who sees the divine in all animate beings, natural phenomena and inanimate objects - in rainbows, birds, friends and foes. The poems have an unusual innocence and frankness, a rare mixture of childlike curiosity, enthusiasm and ascetic detachment. Why such variety of moods and emotions ? I feel reading between the poems will give part of the answer. Look at the dates of composition: More than two decades of creative endeavor. It is indeed an unending quest for meaning that derives inspiration from different situations of life, having seen the world through the eyes of a child, an adolescent and a sensitive adult. No wonder these poems have many bhavas, rasas and hues. Music is the life breath of her poetry because music is her life breath too. I think despite being an Engineer, that too a Mechanical Engineer, she has chosen an unusual path of music and poetry. Vanita is an accomplished singer and musician and works as a Valuer-Chartered Engineer-Researcher-Consultant in the field of Mechanical Engineering. As a person, Vanita teased me out of all my prejudices about Engineers and their 'colourless' pursuits in life. She is active as a professional and an academic devoted to research and teaching. But that's not all. A voracious reader, singer and poet! The title of her collection, Wings of Silence speaks volumes about her poems. Most of the poems have come to life in moments of silent ruminations that gave wings to her imagination. It is in the deep silences of the heart that one can feel the intensity of Vanita's poems. As she admits"My poems are wings of my silence, Which spread and expand, To embrace your silenceAnd together, They dissolve into infinity".She has also realized that: For the best of joys is far too deepTo come within shallow words' grip. For, the great pain is too bitterFor the subtle words to endure.(Silent Diction)A lot is left unsaid; a lot has to be understood in the realm of silence in her poems precisely for this reason. Poetry thus becomes articulate silence that with scanty utterance conveys prolific and profound meanings. You will find a collage of philosophy, playfulness, subtle irony, sarcasm and a melancholy in this collection. Vanita's sense of humor is remarkable. Sometimes bubbling with joy, sometimes full of gloomy laughter! These poems are full of surprises, unexpected twists and turns.like our experiences in life!. Seller Inventory # APC9781676124191
