About this Item: John Lehmann, 1947. FIRST ENGLISH EDITION, typographic headpieces, pp. 83, [1, Index], foolscap 8vo, original blue cloth, backstrip lettered in gilt, dustjacket with the backstrip panel a little sunned, very good. Inscribed to Walter de la Mare on the flyleaf: '. from Arthur Donnelly (his brother's book), with all good wishes from both of us, London, Oct. 26th 1948'. The Donnellys were New Zealanders, where the book was first published (by the Caxton Press). The choice of pseudonym relates directly to the subject of Donnelly's anthology in an amusing way, referring to Thomas Amory's character who marries a series of women - each of whom embody one of his ideals of womanhood.
