About this Item: F.W. Preece & Sons, Adelaide, 1930. Hard Cover. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. Woggheeguy: Australian Aboriginal Legends. Collected by Catherine Stow (K. Langloh Parker) (1856-1940). Illustrated in b&w by Nora Heysen (1911-2003). Contains 14 in-text illustrations, plus all 8 full-page plates, as issued, including frontispiece. With 2-page glossary printed at rear. From the author's foreword: "Most of the legends in 'Woggheeguy' were told to me by aboriginals on Bangate Station, New South Wales, where I lived for over twenty years. Realizing too, that the aboriginals are so quickly disappearing - my old story-tellers and their tribes are, I believe, almost extinct - probably the only proofs that they ever existed will be their weapons and legends, which are both increasingly difficult to collect". NOTE: we have two copies of this title, both published by F.W. Preece & Sons in 1930, internally identical (& both copies with single-letter printing error to the word "performance" on page 11, line 12), with the following external differences: the FIRST (this copy) backed by brown cloth with paper label to spine & thicker stock boards & without dustjacket (& slightly smaller size margin 24.5 x 18cm); the SECOND backed by red cloth with no paper label to spine & thinner stock boards & with dustjacket (& slightly larger size margin 24.5 x 18.5cm). Uncommon in either edition. Trove doesn't differentiate between the two, & notes the title cited in Marcie Muir, A Bibliography of Australian Children's Books, 5721. Printed in Australia. Bound in publisher's original pictorial boards (black & red illustration & lettering to front board), backed by brown cloth spine with printed paper title label, pictorial endpapers. No dustjacket. Handling wear, rear hinge cracked (but holding), mild foxing, former owner's small ink stamp to front pastedown & bookplate to half-title page, otherwise a nice clean tight solid hardcover copy. xi + 98pp. Scarce title. SB-246. Size: 24.5 x 18cm. Seller Inventory # 026911
