About this Item: Vincent Parke and Company, New York, 1911. Edition d'Amiens. Bound in original ¾ red leather with red cloth boards and marbled end papers. Gilt edging deliniates between the leather spine/corners and the cloth boards. Five raised bands on spines, along with four illustrations in gilt between the bands: a flying machine at the top, an elephant, a boat or ship and a hot air balloon at the bottom. Below the flying machine are the words "Jules Verne" and the volume number in gilt. Below the elephant is listed the various works in that particular volume. First limited Prince Edward of Wales edition, one of 500 numbered sets, this set unnumbered, the limitation page signed by the registrar R. G. Lancaster. This edition includes 36 novels and short stories, including Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, Center of the Earth, and Around the World In Eighty Days, as well as the first edition in English of Verne's later novel, The Master of the World, preceding the first separate English and American editions of 1914. Engraved color portrait of the Prince of Wales to limitation leaf of volume one, engraved color, sepia, and black and white frontispieces with captioned tissue guards to each volume, numerous plates in the contents. Some nicks to leather, mostly to the raised bands on the spines. Wear to the leather at the top of the spines. The front cover of one volume is detached but present. Another volume has significant staining to the upper part of the front cover. Otherwise, this is a structurally sound, internally bright and, overall, clean set, priced to afford the buyer an ability to have the two covers restored and to do some touch-up work on the spines. A scarce set that is most difficult to find in the original leather binding. NOTE: Because of the heaviness of this set, extra postage will be required. Contact us for photos.
