Early advertisements for the original set specify 15 volumes, but this has 20. The titles: Great Expectations; Hard Times and Pictures from Italy; David Copperfield; Sketches by "Boz;" Little Dorrit; The Mystery of Edwin Drood and Other Stories; A Tale of Two Cities, and Master Humphrey's Clock; Dombey and Son; Christmas Books; Christmas Stories; American Notes and The Uncommercial Traveller; Martin Chuzzlewit; Bleak House; Pickwick Papers; A Child's History of England; Oliver Twist; The Old Curiosity Shop; Our Mutual Friend; Nicholas Nickleby. The Pickwick Club shows a partial separation and some wear of the front hinge, and Little Dorrithas a quarter-inch nick at the spine head. Otherwise, with small amounts of rubbing to extremities, all volumes are VG to NF. Nicely printed on India paper, with frontispieces. This is the fullest example of this set currently online, and the one in the best condition.

All spines are toned and show wear at the heads and heels of the soft leather spines. However, the gilt lettering and floral designs running down the spines are still crisp and bright on every volume. Bright gilt top edges, along with purple ribbon markers. Six of the volumes have maroon marbled endpapers and 11 have solid black endpapers. Each volume contains a black & white frontispiece with tissue guard and all have the 2-color (red and black) half-title and title pages of the early editions. Pages in all volumes are bright, tight, smooth and unmarked. American Notes and Old Curiosity Shop have split inner front hinges (covers are still attached); Martin Chuzzlewit has a cracked inner back hinge; David Copperfield and Pickwick Papers have cracked inner front hinges. Pickwick Papers also has a scratch on the front cover corner and along the top edge of the front cover is scraped. Original paper advertisement printed by the publisher to promote all author sets in the New Century Library series is included. Unusual to find the Dickens complete set and all in such nice condition.
