About this Item: Printed for James Black, York Street, Covent Garden,, London, 1815. Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: No Dust Jacket. First Edition. The ORIGINAL Edition 1815. In Half leather (leather spine and corners) with marbled paper covered boards - the marbled paper scuffed & scraped with loss, particularly to the rear board, but the leather is sound, with a little rubbing to the corners. 8 gilt bands to the spine. No title - though there is some impressed lettering reading "Edward's Memoirs" where the title label might have been. The remains of a white paper label in the compartment underneath & the inked number 50, two compartments below that again. Page fore-edges lightly red speckled but toned light brown with age. The book was in a Welsh Methodist Chapel Library & has an oval purple 'church' stamp on the top of the front blank free endpaper. Half title reads 'Memoirs of Predsident Edwards'. (xii) + 266pp + 2pp J. Black booksellers catalogue. An Engraved Portrait Frontispiece of Rev Edwards. Paper & Text block sound, generally very clean, but a couple of small holes to the blank lower half of the Half-title, together with some yellowy, discoloured patching, light browning, some spotting & the occasional light marks throughout, as appropriate to age & condition. Internally, apart from the stamp as noted above, there are No Inscriptions or major marks. Contents cover: - Preface; Birth Parentage, etc; Extracts from his private writings; His General Deportment; His Departure from Northampton, New England; From his Mission to the INDIANS to his Death - His Mission to the Indians at Stockbridge, Massachusetts Bay; His Election to the Presidency of New Jersey College; His Publications, Manuscripts, etc. APPENDIX: 1. Mrs Edward's Life & Character; 2. A Brief Account of Mrs Burr (His Daughter) 3. The Life & Character of Dr. Edwards. (Son). Scarce in this original 1st Edition 1815 form.
