Red titles + scroll design front. Red titles spine. 19.2 x 13.5cm. 581 rough cut pages. Printed by the Riverside Press Cambridge, Massachusetts. On the 2nd free page is a newspaper cutting stuck to page with stamp backs. It shows Margaret Ayer Barnes and her two sons and states that this her first novel has been awarded the Pulitzer Prize for the year. Under the caption in ink is written 'Toronto Saturday Night. May 30th 1931. Under the cutting in pencil is 1891. On the back paste down is the remains of a DJ flap giving info on the author and how she would not have taken to writing had it not been for a serious car accident. At the bottom written in pencil is 1890's, I do not know what this date is referring to. In addition there is a loose opening paper page from another book - title unknown, which has a dedication to Adelaide from Margaret Ayer Barnes, written in black ink. Condition: Cover spine sunned. Wear on top/bottom spine + spine seams + corners. Boards showing slightly front corners. Few letters of front title + scroll design rubbed. e/ps slight ghosting and yellowing. Free o/p period ink writing dedication dated Christmas 1930. End paste down has remains of DJ flap adhered with stamp tabs. Outer edge of pages collectively discoloured with age. Internally clean, tight binding, good colour. Good condition. Loose page with author signature evenly discoloured with age. Signature clear. Signed by Author.
