Calf covered boards with gilt lined imprint around boards front and back and 6 raised bands on spine with title in gilt, saying "History of the Stuarts - Vol 2".Vol 2 refers to it being the sequel to the "Reigns of the Stuarts". Boards in remarkably good condition for the age, with some scuffing to the leather and minor bumping on the corners. Edges red mottled. Title page is printed in black and red on cream. Heavy pages firmly bound throughout and again in very good condition. Endpapers dirtstained and some minor water damage to the back endpapers. All in all in remarkable condition for such an old book. Some dirtstaining on covers, but fair conditon for age. Ex Libris plate pasted inside front cover with no markings and a frontispiece of the Living Buddha opposite the title page, which is printed in red and black ink. There are various b/w photos interspersed throughout the text, but the map is missing Otter-Barry visited Mongolia before the outbreak of the Chinese revolution and Ayscough-Perry visited after China had become a republic and shows Mongolia under Russian protection. Thus there is an interesting comparisonof Mongolian-Russian relations at two separate periods.
