Item Description: Antiquaires a Paris, Paris, 1988. Hard Cover. Book Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. First Edition. First edition. Quarto. 238 pp; profusely illustrated in color. Text in French & English. Cloth with dustjacket. A fine copy except for inscription on front flyleaf, else a crisp, unmarked copy; jacket glossy and bright with one minor edge tear. The book tells the story of the Chateau de Bagatelle, on the edge of Paris. It was built on a whim by Comte d'Artois, the 20-year-old brother of Louis XVI, who bet Marie-Antoinette that it could be built in only two months, hence the title "La Folie d'Artois." It examines the architecture and gardens of Bagatelle, as well as the master craftsmen who decorated the various residences, and the cabinet-makers who furnished them, and the artists he commissioned. In 1988 Antiquaires à Paris, an association of six prominent Parisian antique dealers - Didier Aaron, Aveline-Jean-Marie Rossi, Michel Meyer, Jacques Perrin, Maurice Segoura, and Bernard Steinitz, held their annual exhibition at Bagatelle, filling the interior with some of the finest examples of French 18th-century decorative arts. The decorator Jacques Grange recreated the interior. Bookseller Inventory # 013579
