(Victoria, B.C. – 18 November 2008) A set of leather-bound novels from Penguin Classics and a unique leather carrying case is the headline lot in this year’s charity book auction, which begins on Thursday 20 November and ends on Tuesday 25 November.

The books are the result of collaboration between Bill Amberg, one of the world’s top designers of leather goods, and Penguin.  Amberg selected six modern novels and bound them in soft, brown calf leather. The books are The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde, A Room with a View by EM Forster, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler, Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh and Breakfast at Tiffany’s by Truman Capote.  The set has only just been issued by Penguin Classics.

Each book has an integrated leather bookmark and is boxed with a belly-band. The collection comes complete with the Bill Amberg-designed leather carrying case and the initials of the winning bidder will be stamped on to the luggage tag. Each book is signed by Amberg.

Also up for grabs are signed copies of Ian McEwan’s On Chesil Beach, Junot Díaz’s The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar, Chelsea Cain’s Sweetheart, Hillary Jordan’s Mudbound, Rawi Hage’s Cockroach,  Joseph Boyden’s Through Black Spruce and three signed books from leadership guru Lance Secretan. There is also a box of 11 Random House books and deluxe weekend accommodation at the Marriott in Vancouver, BC.
