First edition, folio, pp. [2], iv (preface), 3 (the author's character), [3] list of approx. 500 subscribers, 158, 177-666, 581-914, [1] catalogue of the author's works; title page printed in red and black, text in double column, without the portrait of the author, as often; 18th century engraved bookplate of Northampton South Street Library (their catalogue no. 80), and a modern plate of the Forbes Library, Northampton; full original mottled sheep, red morocco label on spine; inoffensive perforated stamp in title page, rubbed and worn, corners showing, spine ends chipped level with text block, front joint nearly separated, the whole toned throughout, moderate foxing. Interesting note in ink on front free endpaper: "The book belongs to Alvirah Clay's / David Clark jr. & Mead Edward, jr / it was bought at a vendue & cost one dollar & seventy-eight cents / February 20th 1806." Evans 2828: The posthumous publication of this monumental work was undertaken, and successfully accomplished by the author's successors in his church, Joseph Sewell, and Thomas Prince.
