Attractively bound in full polished calf with gilt border, blind frames, gilt rolled board edges, and blind rolled dentelles, spine with raised gilt-ruled bands and gilt label on spine; bookplate of Arnold Thackray on the flyleaf. First editions. The first work is divided into three parts, consisting of a brief essay detailing the origin of the Royal Literary and Scientific Institution of Bath, a paper (originally given in 1826) on Bath's connection to the literary and scientific achievements of England, and separate annotations to that paper. The second work provides a wonderful overview of the chief writers and poets associated with Bath (of which there were many), including major names like Jane Austen, Alexander Pope, and Sir Walter Scott.
