AbeBooks' uniqueness is our network of independent booksellers who work with us to provide the most diverse selection of rare, used and out-of-print books on the Internet. It is these sellers, with their experience, commitment and love of the used and out-of-print book business who help all our buyers find that treasure they've been looking for.
I will make every effort to describe my books accurately and will always accept returns if you are unhappy. But I ask that you consider what might make you unhappy before ordering a scarce and older book which is priced well outside of the "race to the bottom" of 21st century bookselling.
I very much hope only to sell my books to persons who will be the final owner - internet-based fulfillment operations which order a book to be drop-shipped to someone else whom they have overcharged are more an...[More Information]
PACKAGING: My shipping will not be beautiful (is it ever?) nor do I employ one of those new "insta-wrap" machines that allow many sellers to make a slim margin on cheap books simply by dint of a sliver of their shipping fee. Often I will recycle book-shipping materials which have contained books that I have purchased. (I am downsizing but I cannot stop reading!). I decry plastic shipping but consider reusing it a small plus in the ledger of environmental destruction. I will always try to over-pack and over-protect my books.
SHIPPING: Rather than overprice my books and proclaim "free shipping" I will have actual shipping fees that seek to be close to the actual cost to me. I will generally try to offer you, the buyer, some choice regarding speed of shipment. Nevertheless for our mutual protection I may limit shipping options on more costly books to those modes which include insurance and which attempt to get the book to you in a short time. I will be using the local, rural post office and might need a day or two to get things out the door.
INTERNATIONAL ORDERS: I apologise for setting international shipping rates to the ABE maximum - but a current bad experience has led to this. The US Postal Service charges extraordinarily high rates for international shipping and even my prior price-setting, to what seemed high, have now cost me susbstantially on an order from Australia - I had assumed $40 would cover 3 books but the reality is more than double that.
IF you are an international buyer and are willing to purchase at these high shipping rate settings I will make every effort to refund to you any excess beyond my actual costs - but be aware that they are high. If you prefer you can make an inquiry about a specific title and give me shipping information and I will calculate what the actual charge will be.
