Contemporary full sprinkled calf, spine richly gilt in six compartments, red leather lettering piece gilt, edges sprinkled red, plain period end papers. An exemplary wide-margined example with tight binding; fresh, bright, virtually spotless leaves; plates in deep, rich impressions. Tenth Edition of this popular astronomy handbook, published originally in 1731 and running through at least fourteen editions through 1793. Thomas Wright, instrument maker to his Majesty, specialized in the orrery, while Richard Cushee was a maker of globes (and engraved of the plates. The unnumbered plate bound in at p. 35 is an advertisement for "new and correct globes according to the latest observations, made and sold by Richard Cushee." In his text, Harris introduces the latest models of globes, celestial and terrestrial, and demonstrates how to use the them in the solving of 46 problems, including finding latitude and longitude and the position of the sun at any given place and day.
