CHARITY AUCTION FEATURES SIGNED DEATHLY HALLOWS & RARE MARGARET ATWOOD POETRY BOOK
(Victoria, BC – 3 December 2007) A signed copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and a rare hand-numbered signed limited edition of Margaret Atwood’s poetry collection, The Door, will be the eye-catching headline items in an AbeBooks.com’s online charity auction taking place between December 6 and 11.
With Christmas just a few weeks away, AbeBooks.com will offer four separate lots to the highest bidders:
- A signed Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows obtained by an AbeBooks employee at JK Rowling’s recent appearance in Toronto plus memorabilia from the event including the ticket, a set of Harry Potter stickers, a commemorative bookmark, a door hanger, and a poster. Earlier this year, AbeBooks.com sold a signed copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows for $5,500
- A hand-numbered signed limited edition of Margaret Atwood’s The Door – only 150 were produced and this is No.4. The book is housed in a box, quarter-bound in Iris bookcloth and has handmade marble endpapers. It includes a limited edition block print signed and numbered in pencil by the author. No.1 and No.2 were auctioned earlier in the year for $2,000 and No.2 for $1,800 respectively by PEN Canada. All proceeds from this lot will be donated to PEN Canada - charity that supports freedom of expression.
- An illustrated edition of Life of Pi signed by Yann Martel
- Signed copies of Kiran Desai’s two novels – The Inheritance of Loss and Hullabaloo in the Guava Orchard.
The signed book auction will close at 3pm (EST) / 8pm (GMT) on Tuesday 11 December. More details can be found at http://www.abebooks.com/auctions/
All proceeds from the JK Rowling, Yann Martel and Kiran Desai books will be donated to the United Way and its ‘Project Literacy’ initiative in AbeBooks.com’s hometown of Victoria, BC.
