Book Description Horizon Press, 1959. Hardcover. Book Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Illustrated With 200 Drawings in Color & Black & White By Frank Lloyd Wright & Apprentices (illustrator). 1st Edition, Limited Edition. 14" Wide By 12" Tall +/-. An attractive copy of the Limited First Edition of Frank Lloyd Wright's drawings and sketches, the only significant monograph of Wright's drawings published in color during his lifetime [Wright died the year of its publication]. Of the 200 drawings in the book, numerous are two pages in width, making for spectacular close-up views, in full color, also. The book was published at the expense of Edgar Kaufmann Jr. as a gift to Mr. Wright [at a cost of $75 per copy]. Only 2000 copies were published at a retail price of $35, and was never reprinted. Numerous drawings are herein published for the first time, and presented in Wright's most famous style. Some of the drawings were executed by Marion Mahony, architect son Lloyd Wright, and Jack Howe, all superb delineators. The front cover has a few small spots along the lower margin, where the cloth is a little faded, likewise for the corners, otherwise clean and neat. The Dust Jacket is 99.99 percent complete, with two chips on the lower margin of the front panel; three chips lower margin of rear panel & a 1" tear; short tears at the fold in the flap; and a 1/4"x 1.5" chip at the base of the spine. The top margin of the jacket is nearly perfect with only a chip at the top corner of the fold. DJ price has been clipped. The rear panel shows yellowing from light exposure. The binding is tight, with the hinges secure; text is clean and crisp throughout. Considered a cornerstone of Wright's literature. Ref: Sweeney #1265. Organic American Architecture.
