"The edition of Eusebius here offered to the public, is the first that has been issued in this country" (p. iii): The first American-translated rendition of the Ecclesiastical History, accompanied by "A Historical View of the Council of Nice; with a Translation of Documents" by the Rev. Isaac Boyle. The translation was done from the original by the Rev. Christian Frederic Crus?, an Episcopal clergyman and professor at the University of Pennsylvania. This is an early edition, following the first of 1833; the Historical View has a separate title-page dated 1839. 8vo (23.3 cm, 9.2"). xxxvii, [13]?439, [1], 467?80 (index), [2], 59, [1] pp. American Imprints 40-2233. Publisher's textured brown cloth, spine with gilt-stamped title; corners and spine extremities rubbed. Front free endpaper with early pencilled inscription of William H. Hart; title-page and preliminary notice with early inked inscription of George B. Andrews. Pages age-toned, with first and last sections foxed.
