About this Item

With 12 pages of photos and 1 text diagram. Original printed wrappers, some spotting; interior very good. First edition of the official report of a British delegation to Japan, whose mission was to observe the devastating effects of the 1945 bombing. The introduction states that the purpose of this survey was "to point to general conclusions on the effects to be expected from similar atomic bombs, should they fall outside Japan, and in particular in Great Britain." Included are twenty-four shocking images of the damage done to various properties, including the infamous "shadows" of both humans and objects seared onto the sides of buildings by the scorching light and heat of the detonation.
