First edition of the author's only book, 8vo, pp. xvi, 116; in a (presentation?) binding of contemporary full red goatskin, elaborate gilt floral borders enclosing a large central lozenge, gilt-decorated spine in 6 compartments, black morocco label in 1; fine, handsome copy, and printed on thick paper. An unusual treatise on the education of children, by a dancing-master from Lewes, in Sussex. The last third of the book is devoted to "A Dissertation on the Regulation of the Art of Dancing," in which Philpot discusses dances like the minuet and the rigadoon, and cites such predecessors as John Weaver.
