This is an ORIGINAL MAP of the Tahoe National Forest. Published by the United States Department of Agriculture, Forest Service in 1916. The map measures 9 1/2" x 5" folded and 35" x 48" unfolded. It is a "Recreation Map", which states, "This map is issued as a guide to the camper and mountain traveler desiring to make use of the Tahoe National Forest for recreation." On one side is the large detailed map. Because the area was then so sparsely populated, the presence of various game animals and camp grounds are noted in red ink, to interest hunters and campers. The route of the Tahoe Steamer is noted. On the verso is text concerning all aspects of the Forest. The Tahoe National Forest was created by President McKinley's proclamation of April 13, 1899. It consisted of of 1,268,335 acres of California and Nevada land. Prominent on the map is Lake Tahoe (Elevation 6,225'), the largest alpine lake in North America. Very scarce. A Near Fine copy (rubbed from handling), now folded in a clear 4mil mylar protective envelope. Seller Inventory # 2930
