About this Item

Description:

First edition. Octavo. 285pp. Photographs. Slight binder's flaw has resulted in nominal wrinkles on a few pages else near fine in good only dust jacket with considerable chipping. An exceptionally uncommon self-published book, an anecdotal history and personal memoir about African-American baseball by a player and manager in the Negro Leagues, who later signed with the Cleveland Indians as a catcher at the age of 38, and thereafter was a major league scout for many years. The author's son, Quincy Thomas Troupe, Jr. (his father had added a second "p" during his career in the Mexican League), is a noted poet, editor, and professor at University of California San Diego. Fascinating but very poorly manufactured volume. Copies are uncommon. Seller Inventory # 550650
