In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart, with light rubbing to the spine and extremities, and lighter rubbing to the boards. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities, with a small amount of loss to the head and tail of the spine. Small tears to the joints. A few small marks to the cloth. Front hinge is starting but firm. Gift inscription to the verso of the front endpaper. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with scattered spots. Good. book. The attractive plates, several of which are of lady's slipper orchids, were printed by Fawcett of Driffield from paintings by Lydon. The two volumes constitute the complete set, each volume being issued separately, the first volume being successful it was decided to issue a second series, which is why most sets found are with the second edition of the first volume. For many years she edited CurtisÕ Botanical Magazine. She was also Clematis registrar for the Royal Horticultural Society.Older bookplate of one D Crichton R.N. Near very good.
