Octavo (21.5cm); taupe paper and hunter green cloth-covered boards, with titles stamped in gilt on spine; dustjacket; [8],9-158,[2]pp. Inscribed by Chatham in the year of publication to fellow Montana author, screenwriter, and outdoorsman William "Gatz" Hjortsberg and his wife, on the verso of the front endpaper: "For Gatz and Marian / July 17 / Russell Chatham / Deep Creek / 1976." Tiny (.5cm) tear at upper rear joint, with two tiny spots to right edge of textblock; very Near Fine. Dustjacket is unclipped (priced $7.95), with some trivial wear to extremities and a short closed tear at upper front joint (neatly tape-mended on verso); Near Fine. Chatham's first book, a collection of 14 stories of fishing the Pacific Northwest, with an introduction by his friend and fellow fishing enthusiast Thomas McGuane. A superb contemporary association copy, inscribed to long-time friend and fellow Montanan William Hjortsberg (1941-2017), a central figure in the coterie of Montana authors that included Chatham, McGuane, Jim Harrison, Richard Brautigan, Tim Cahill, Peter Bowen, and others.
