Add to basket268, [4] pages; An excellent copy of the first edition of this 1932 work by Paul Morand [1888-1976] -- part of the author's series: "Pour mon plaisir" - II. This is an example of the largest part of the first edition, printed on Alfax Navarre -- (press-numbered "Alfa 1856" on the verso of the title page). This is confirmed by the printed notation: "ALFA" at the foot of the spine. An excellent copy, clean and fresh, in the original wrappers, with an old (probably original) glassine overlay -- (the spine of the glassine is very slightly darkened). A neatly written ink signature "A. Larnandie" appears at the top edge of the title page; no other marks. The author was finally made a member of the Académie française in 1968 -- (but not formally inducted as Charles DeGaulle refused to receive him at the Elysée Palace. This is probably due to Morand's having abandoned his assignment to the French embassy in London in 1939, relocating instead to Vichy where he swore allegiance to the collaborationist Vichy government. Morand eventually was appointed the Vichy ambassador to Romania. As a writer, a modernist, and a firm believer in art for art's sake -- Morand was a close associate of Marcel Proust, Ezra Pound (who translated his first works into English) , Jean Cocteau and members of the Dada movement. As a politician, his ideals and associates are a less admirable crowd.
