Contemporary full paper boards with cloth spine, title in gilt on upper board. Size: 14 inches by 10 ½ inches. Oblong folio. With 24 superb tinted lithographed plates, each with captions. The plates, depict various locations in the Pyrenees Mountains. A very attractive example, plates are clean and crisp. Pictorial title-page and twenty-four lithographic plates, each printed in black and sepia. (Oblong folio), original black paper boards backed in black cloth, title decoratively gilt lettered on front cover. Andre Gorse was a painter of landscape and genre scenes who participated in the Paris Salon in 1850 and thereafter. He also produced many highly attractive lithographic prints depicting the glories of the Pyrenees region in south-western France. Evidently sightseers could choose the prints they wanted and then have them bound up into individual albums. The scenes depicted include several towns and villages, spas, mountain ranges and peaks, numerous waterfalls and cascades, lakes, etc. Condition Report Externally Front joint split See above and photos Internally - The binding on this volumes is shaken and poor - the plates are to all intents and purposes loose.
