About this Item
A fine first edition, first impression, first printing of Edna OżBrienżs fourth book August is a Wicked Month in hardback cloth covers with a near fine dust jacket, published in Great Britain by Jonathan Cape in 1965. This fine book has grey cloth covered boards, titles in gold on the spine with white end papers. The tight, bright book has no marks, bumps or writings over its 221 pages, apart from a small indent in the middle of the spine. The book is published on good quality paper with no signs of foxing. The top edge is stained pink while the front edge has two small faded (coffee?) stains running from front to back. The copyright page states first published 1965 indicating the first edition, with copyright Edna OżBrien 1965. The near fine white and orange dust jacket, with the price in sterling, is not price clipped and while in near fine condition overall, it has some blemishes; the flap corners have some small nicks, the top and bottom of the spine is worn, the inside of the cover has some foxing, the small spine indent is also present and the photo on the back has a small nick on the face. The titles are in black and orange on a white orange framed panel on the front, in black only on the back cover and in black and green on the spine. The back and front jacket each feature a striking photograph of Edna OżBrien by Lord Snowdon. This book written after OżBrien moved to London is a departure from her three previous novels but reflects similar themes. Several zoomable photos are attached to the book listing on my AbeBooks website. Clear removable archival film protects the fifty year old dust jacket. Seller Inventory # 000188
