Near fine/ near fine A sharp copy of the British edition of Browning's recently discovered early diary (1831-2), edited by Elizabeth Berridge and including her "minor work of art" of an introduction (Paul Scott), unusual inscribed. EBB's diary, which had been discovered in a solicitor's office in 1961, covered the last twelve months she lived at Hope End, the opulent mansion of Turkish design that her father had built; set in 500 acres near the Malvern Hills near Ledbury, the family had moved there in 1803. "A writer of rare distinction", Elizabeth Berridge (1919-2009) was an award-winning novelist, short story writer, journalist and editor, who "from the beginning, was a master of what she herself described as the 'tiny, concentrated explosions short stories should contain'". In 1940 she married Reginald Moore, founder and editor of Modern Reading and other wartime literary magazines.
