No. 31 of 200 copies. Bookplate of John Howell and a facsimile of a sketch in sanguine for Vénus Marine by Chassériau on front pastedown. Davies' bibliography is the scholarly and exhaustive work on one of the most important travel books published before 1500: Bernhard von Breydenbach's famous Peregrinationes in Terram Sanctam, the earliest voyage-narrative to be printed with views of the places seen en route. All the editions described are based on copies in the library of C. Fairfax Murray. Very good copy overall; contents fine, spine age-toned to brown, light rubbing to backstrip, which also has a tiny chip at the head; and light wear to tips.
