About this Item
A set of final transmission camera scripts, each bound with a slightly rusted butterfly clip and comprising: cover sheet, cast list, supporting artists and running order, then the main scripts, which in order of original broadcast have the following approximate page counts: 88, 90, 90, 100, 86 and 91 respectively. The stated paginations are as follows: 85, 87, 92, 99, 86 and 90. The differences between the two are due to occasional additions (e.g. 6A, 6B) and contractions (e.g. 12/15, 33/34) and even as in the case of the fifth episode, where the actual count matches the stated, it has taken a winding and circuitous route to get there. All episodes contain cut sections, some more extensive than others running to several pages. 'The Queen of Spain's Beard' has its original title: 'The Infanta', and the first episode is simply subtitled 'A Story of Kings', with the final title: 'The Foretelling' jotted on later. The pages are slightly marked, toned and stained, with some dog-eared corners but all scripts are holding firm and can be perused with confidence. A rare opportunity to acquire a complete uniform set of scripts for the first series of Blackadder, which was famously so expensive to make that it would be another three years before parsimonious BBC executives could be persuaded to commission a second, and then only with a substantially reduced budget.
