Stiff brown paper wrappers illustrated with a line drawing of the press on the front of both volumes - same drawing on the slipcase. Sharp black lettering to the spines of both volumes - condition the same unless noted: Books are tight, square, particularly sharp-cornered especially given format, and free of any markings or flaws inside and out. Books and slipcase are Fine. One volume is text, one volume has 8 folded drawings. The writer and illustrator write together: "In drawing up these plans and instructions based on the Ben Franklin press, our aim has been not only to record the manner in which an early eighteenth-century British common press was constructed, but also to supply sources and methods that will help the user to build a replica with as little difficulty and as few special tools as possible." Designed by Stephen Harvard and printed in an edition of 2000 copies by the Stinehour Press. The type, Monotype Bell, is a traditional face, closely related to the French designs of Didot and Fournier. It was first cut in 1788 by Richard Austin, a professional engraver, and issued by John Bell of London, a publisher, bookseller, typefounder, and printer whose avowed ambition was "retrieve and exalt the neglected art of printing in England." The type used in this edition was recut fro the Monotype Corporation of London in 1930 under the supervision of Stanley Morison. Seller Inventory # blb05357
