Condition: Sehr gut. Original cloth binding, 317 + 16 pages, 20 illustrations on plates, large folding map, edges with some foxing, inside only occasionally, still very good condition. Kingdon Ward travelled extensively from the 1910s to 1950ies all over the Himalayas, from Western China through Southern Tibet and Assam. In this book he describes his 1922 expedition starting in Likiang/Yunnan to Eastern Tibet and then to Burma. He visited on the way the small Buddhist Kingdom of Muli, quite independent at that time, which was also visited by Kingdon Ward`s rival Joseph Rock. Signed books by Kingdon Ward, especially early ones, are scarce. Peter Hopkirk`s copy with his small bookplate inside front cover - books from his fine library which was dispersed in 1998 appear rarely on the market nowadays.
