First American edition. Small square octavo. 35pp. Original gray wrappers lettered in black on front cover. Narrow spine is sunned, brown glue stains on pastedowns and half-title, a nice near fine copy of a fragile and rare little book. Copy number 32 of 40 numbered copies only. Inscribed by Hilda Doolittle to Violet Flint: "To Violet Flint from H.D." Flint was the wife of the imagist poet Frank Stuart Flint), an important figure in early twentieth century literary circles. The printer, Charles Clinch Bubb or "Canon Bubb" as he preferred to be called, was a notable American printer. As a curate and later rector of Grace Parish Church in Cleveland, he began the Clerk's Press using a hand press and operating in the Church. The name of the press comes from Bubb's consideration of himself as a Clerk in Holy Orders. His printing subjects varied widely, from a close association with the Imagist school of poetry, corresponding with Ezra Pound, printing Hilda Doolittle's first book and works by Richard Aldington. Rare, especially so signed. *OCLC* locates only the Carter Burden copy at the Morgan. Seller Inventory # 539495
