Add to basketFirst edition. 16mo. Printed in several colors, and utilizing both illustrations and decorative type. Papercovered boards titled in black. Spine faintly toned else fine. Six poems bound into a single volume, as issued, each poem by a different member of the Goudy Chappel. The poems are: "For Christopher: A Poem," by H. N. Bialik (text in Hebrew and English) [New York: Ron Press]; "Three Christophers" (Fairlawn, N.J: Private Press of the Haywoods); "Let Nothing Disturb Thee," by Santa Teresa [New York: Pre-Columbian Press]; "Four for Christopher" [New York: Powers Private Press]; "The Adjurative Alphabet for a Boy Named Christopher Torre" [White Plains, N.H.]: (Herity Press); and "Songs for Christopher" [Sands Point, L.I., N.Y.]: (Cow Bay Press). The Goudy Chappel (1965-1982) included the following members: the Liebermans, the Wronkers, Cordes, Speckters, Haywoods and others. "Ben Lieberman (1914 1984), founder of the American Printing History Association (.) a tireless proponent of the private press movement (.) was also founder of the American printing chappels movement and a member, among others, of the original Moxon Chappel in California in the 1950s." (per American Printing History Association website). "In 1957 [Ben Lieberman] invited six families who owned presses to his home in Menlo Park, forming the first ''chappel,'' named for a term used in the first book about printing and spelled in the original way to distinguish the informal social clubs of private printers from the 'chapels' of professional printers. Later that year, Dr. Lieberman moved to White Plains and in 1960 he founded the Westchester Chappel. In the Westchester area, there are now [in 1981] two chappels, the Westchester Chappel and the Goudy Chappel, a New York City chapter that includes several suburban counties. Other chappels exist throughout the country and in Britain. " (*The New York Times*). Uncommon, and a nice production.
