First edition, first printing. Published by The Hogarth Press in London, 1959. This is a near fine copy. The dust wrapper is finely designed by John Ward and has some mild wear at the spine tips. There is also slight rubbing at the edges. It has been neatly price clipped. There is one small previous owners inscription on the front fly leaf in blue ink. The boards have a slight lean but are tight. The text blocks are mostly clean but with some sparse spots. Overall, this is a near fine copy. A wonderfully vivid memoir of childhood in a remote Cotswold village, a village before electricity or cars, a timeless place on the verge of change. Growing up amongst the fields and woods and characters of the place, Laurie Lee depicts a world that is both immediate and real and belongs to a now-distant past.
