Printed in two hardcover volumes for the author. Very book first edition books. No dust jackets. Gray-green paper covered boards with small paper labels on spines. Vol I has 371 text pages. Preface (pages iii - xxxv) includes 25 pages with the List of Subscribers including HRH the Duke of York and HRH the Duke of Kent. Vol I covers the naming of the days and months and significant events occurring on specific dates throughout history from January to May 24th (Trinity Sunday). Vol II begins with St. Augustin, May 26th through December 31st. The Index in Vol II is on pps. 343 -376. Several of the last Index pages are unopened. Board panels are soiled, edges rubbed and chipped. Edges at head and tail of board spines are creased, chipped and with some loss. External page edges are age-soiled and darkened, side and lower edges are untrimmed. Some internal foxing but mostly toward the front and back pages. A few closed tears, chips and creases on text pages. Text blocks are sound. From the Preface: "The Primary Object of the Author's attention, has been correctly to point out and distinguish the several divisions and subdivisions of that portion of duration denominated Time, of every variation in the regulation of this phenomenon, he has given a particular and historical account.And he has added a minute description not only of those Instruments to which human ingenuity has resorted for tracing its flight; from the simple Sun-dial to the accurate Chronometer; but also of such different Tables as have been introduced for marking its progress, from the rude Alban Calendar to that of the present day."
