About the Author: Ian Foster is the Arthur Holly Compton Distinguished Service Professor of Computer Science at the University of Chicago and Distinguished Fellow at Argonne National Laboratory.

Dennis B. Gannon is Emeritus Professor of Computer Science at Indiana University Bloomington.
